Warning: the following steps are largely to let the chokee help the people around, not prevent choking! This is to be deemed seriously frivolous.
- Remain very calm.
- Swerve to the left.
- If chokng persists, raise your left hand to signal for help from family members.
- If no family members are present, put down the left hand to use both hands to dial 999
Notes:
In the event of choking, victims naturally tend to want to cough due to oesophagus contractions. Chokees should remain calm to ease muscular tension so it helps clear the choking sooner.
When unwanted alien particles such as chewed food or beverage is going to be spat out due to choking, let the particles come out by swerving to the left. Kindly remember to, also, swerve your head to the left. If there are guests or important people who cannot afford to be labelled unlucky to have been spat on, kindly swerve to your right, or in extremely crowded cases, look down.
Do not try to do fanciful stunts while your left hand is raised or family members might not take you seriously. You should not try to jump the steps by calling the police before raising your hand, or the chokee, even though you might feel like you will suffocate anytime soon, will be causing a disturbance to the police who are very busy tending to lost wallets and bus passes.
If you only need one hand to use the telephone, you should try to keep the left hand up so that family members who happen to pass by will notice. In the event that the chokee cannot speak to the operator, kindly press a few buttons in fustration and leave the phone hanging so that they can get irritated, and perhaps send a patrol car to your place to warn you about 999 misuse. In such a case, perhaps you might like to keep your main door open. State clearly on paper your name, IC number, blood type, food preference and drug allergy(optional) before you pass out. Try to pass out in a fetal position and if there are still a few conscious minutes to spare, pack your bag, put on nice clothes and make-up.
